Juice WRLD dead at 21 after "medical emergency" in Chicago airport

Juice WRLD has passed away at the age of 21 after experiencing a “medical emergency,” reportedly a seizure, in Chicago’s Midway Airport, TMZ reports. Chicago police confirmed to WGN that the rapper, whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins, “suffered a medical emergency” not long after exiting a private jet at the airport, and emergency crews responded around 3:30 AM. He was transported to Christ Hospital, and pronounced dead there. A death investigation and autopsy are still to be performed.

Juice WRLD released Death Race for Love earlier this year. Rolling Stone just named it one of the best albums of 2019, and his name was already starting to show up at the top of festival lineups. Along with Drake, Post Malone, Khalid and XXXTENTACION, he was one of the 5 most streamed male artists on Spotify this year in the United States. He has collaborated with Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and G Herbo and Southside, and more.

Update: Juice Wrld’s label Interscope Geffen A&M released a statement to XXL, which reads, “Juice made a profound impact on the world in such a short period of time. He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds, an exceptional human being and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else. To lose someone so kind and so close to our hearts is devastating. Our thoughts are with Juice’s family and friends, everyone at his label Grade A, and his millions of fans around the world.”

Several fellow musicians have paid tribute, including Drake, Chance the Rapper, Meek Mill, Clairo, Whitney, Denzel Curry, Lil Nas X, The Weeknd, and many others. See their tributes below.
