Julia Holter announces new album 'Aviary' & tour, shares "I Shall Love 2"

Earlier this year, Julia Holter debuted new songs live and it was reported that a followup to 2015’s great would be out in the second half of 2018. We’re now approaching the last quarter of the year, and her album has officially been announced. It’s called Aviary and due October 26 via Domino. Julia co-produced it with past collaborator Kenny Gilmore, and it was executive produced by Cole MGN. It also features contributions from Corey Fogel (percussion), Devin Hoff (bass), Dina Maccabee (violin, viola, vocals), Sarah Belle Reid (trumpet), Andrew Tholl (violin), and Tashi Wada (synth, bagpipes).

The first single is “I Shall Love 2” which is a little closer to the atmospheric sounds of Ekstasis than to Julia’s last two albums, but it also ends in a truly mesmerizing crescendo that doesn’t sound like much of anything she’s done before. It’s great stuff, and it comes with a video directed by Dicky Bahto (who also took the above photo). Watch, and check out the artwork and tracklist, below.

Julia has also announced a 2018 North American tour, including a Brooklyn show on February 22 at Warsaw. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (9/7) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
