Music Tapes’ Julian Koster is on the road with his 2009 Caroling Tour, which kicked off Saturday, December 5th in Georgia. The revised schedule for the trip is posted below. Its NYC portion will be happening on December 16th and 17th. E-mail musictapescaroling@gmail.com to get on the list for the exact location and time of the shows. Two Xmas tracks off Koster’s The Singing Saw at Christmastime are posted above.

Another holiday happening that’s already underway is “Eternal Christmas: A Yuletide Dreamland”, an art exhibit/show space presented by Flaming Fire at 525 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn. It began over the weekend (12/4) and runs through January 5th (12-8 daily, 12-11 Thurs-Sun, $5 suggested donation). The art work tackles “the mythological and cultural roots of the winter season.” The installations’ “house band” will be Brooklyn’s Lydsod, and the schedule includes a performance by Dewanatron (who opened for Music Tapes in March). More info is below.

Eternal Christmas info

For her first major New York City exhibition, controversial Chicago visual and sound artist Camilla Ha has collaborated with NYC arts collective Flaming Fire for a large-scale interactive arts installation called “Temple of the Dying King”, encompassing three hand-sculpted interior room environments. Each room explores the Jungian and metaphysical roots of the holiday season:

The Grandmother Room, Dark Night Room, and White Glitter Room – Into Light, with original handcrafted interiors made of recycled/sustainable material containing new paintings, sculpture by Ha, and sound art by Flaming Fire.

In the curated art room, original works by Alyssa Wentz, Dame Darcy, the Dewanatron, and Flaming Fire will be featured, including the interactive Flaming Fire Illustrated Bible Project, currently holding more than 3,000 original works of art by professional artists, children, prisoners, and people from all walks of life. Visitors will be provided art supplies and encouraged to create original compositions, which will be uploaded to the Illustrated Bible Project’s official website.

Every Thursday through Sunday evening, NYC avant-garde ensemble Lydsod (Flaming Fire, Smack Dab) will create live collaborative recordings with members of Flaming Fire and local Brooklyn artists and residents that will be engineered and mixed by music producer JZ Barrell and released in 2010 as a document of theart-gallery space. Performances will be visually recorded and played at the space throughout the day, and selected performances will be available for viewing on the official event website. Other performers throughout the month include Flaming Fire, Dame Darcy, Anna Copa Cabana, Dust Dive Flash, Ivory Coasts, MV Carbon, SprayPaint Star, the Jupiter Deluxe, Jared Whitham, and others. On Sunday afternoons from 4-5:30, the Eternal Christmas gallery will host a reading series, featuring local authors such as John Wray and Michael Leviton. Events at the Eternal Christmas gallery will be updated on the events page.
