Julien Baker debuts new song on NPR Tiny Desk Concert, playing SXSW including a FREE BrooklynVegan show

Memphis singer/songwriter Julien Baker’s set on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert was shared today, where she played “Something” and the title track from her fantastic debut album Sprained Ankle, along with a new song, which she appropriately referred to as “Sad Song 11” (its actual name is “Funeral Pyre”). It’s a beautifully solemn track, fitting perfectly with the rest of the tracks off the album. Listen to it below.

Julien is touring this year, which includes SXSW and her first-ever international dates. While in Austin, she’ll play the FREE BrooklynVegan SXSW day party at Cheer Up Charlies on Saturday March 19 along with Into It. Over It. and more TBA. That’s one of three parties we’re throwing at the venue and many more acts and set times will be announced very soon. RSVP is open now.

As mentioned, the tour also hits NYC on April 27 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for that show are still available. Updated dates are listed below.

She’ll also be featured on the Elliott Smith tribute album Say Yes! A Tribute to Elliott Smith which is out on October 14 via American Laundromat. She covered “Ballad of Big Nothing”, which she recently played live.
