Julien Baker releases Elliott Smith cover, "Ballad of Big Nothing" (listen)

You’ve already seen a live video of Julien Baker covering Elliott Smith‘s “Ballad of Big Nothing,” and now the studio version is here. It’s in Julien’s usual bare-bones style of just a clean electric guitar and her voice, and she manages to make it sound even more heartbreaking than the original. Listen below. The song will appear on the upcoming Elliott Smith tribute album that also features Waxahatchee, Sun Kil Moon + Jesu, J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and more. That’s due out on October 14 via American Laundromat.

Julien begins a tour with Phoebe Bridgers this month, and that hits NYC on April 27 at Bowery Ballroom with Petal on board too. That show is now sold out.
