Julien Baker has definitely been keeping busy over the past few years, releasing Sprained Ankle in 2015, Turn Out the Lights in 2017, along with lots of touring and some collaborations (including her excellent 2018 EP boygenius with Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus). It looks like she’s not planning on slowing down any time soon, either; as she told Uproxx, she’s working on a new album now, and she expects to finish it by the end of the year:

I’m working on a new record through the end of this year. I’ve been making demos with friends in town, and traveling to visit friends who have studios in other places, and just taking my time on a record because the last two records that I put out were made in under a week because that’s the only way that I knew how to make records. So now I’m trying to accrue songs in a very organic way, and just see where it goes. But I’m probably going to be finishing up a record at the end of this year.

Stay tuned for more about that.

Meanwhile, the 2019 edition of Sled Island, which Julien was a guest curator for, is happening now in Calgary, AB, and right ahead of that, she stopped in Chicago on Wednesday (6/19) for a House of Vans show with openers she chose, Wye Oak and Macseal (who unfortunately we missed). Check out pictures from that show in the gallery above.

Julien is also contributinig to Frightened Rabbit’s Tiny Changes: A Celebration of The Midnight Organ Fight, and you can listen to her cover of “The Modern Leper” below.
