Just For Laughs announces 2018 New Faces lineup (see some of them in NYC)

Montreal’s annual comedy festival Just For Laughs, which is going as we speak, just announced their coveted “New Faces” lineup for 2018. “New Faces” includes sub-categories for stand-up (“Comedy”), sketch (“Characters”), comedians without managers (“Unrepped”), and, for the second year in a row, online content (“Creators”). From Late Night writers like Emmy Blotnick to Knitting Factory regulars like Kenny DeForest, the festival, as always, features plenty of comedians that you can regularly catch at shows all around New York. All of this year’s New Faces will be showcased at a series of shows this week as part of Just for Laughs, but we’ve highlighted some of our favorites with their upcoming NYC shows, below.

You can check out the full Just for Laughs 2018 New Faces comedians below as well, and more info is here.

Emmy Blotnick

Emmy Blotnick has been a regular face of New York comedy for years, whether hosting open mics at UCBeast or performing on showcases around the city. Now, the Colbert writer has a network television appearance and an upcoming Comedy Central half hour under her belt, and she still performs regularly throughout the city. In addition to regular sets at the Comedy Cellar, she also has upcoming dates booked at Caroline’s, Union Hall, and Littlefield:

  • July 30: Hush Money @ Pinks NYC
  • August 1: Caroline’s
  • August 15: Union Hall
  • August 20: Butterboy @ Littlefield

Kenny DeForest

In addition to hosting and producing the Knitting Factory’s excellent weekly comedy showcase, Kenny DeForest has also made appearances on Seth Meyers and truTV, as well as a spot on Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch” list. In addition to weekly appearances at Comedy at the Knitting Factory every Sunday, DeForest also has several upcoming New York shows coming up:

  • August 2: Greene Grape Annex (Fort Greene) and Tip Top Bar & Grill (Bedford-Stuyvesant)
  • August 15: Fancy Show @ The Delancey (Park Slope)
  • August 17: Niagra Bar (LES) & Campfire (Williamsburg)
  • August 28: Late Night Romp @ VSPOT Organic
  • August 30: Muddy Waters @ The Fulton Grand

Katie Hannigan

Katie Hannigan‘s charmingly self-deprecating, absurdist take on feminist comedy has made her a regular at comedy clubs around the city, including The Stand, Caroline’s, The Knitting Factory, and Littlefield. Though she is currently not represented by any management, she has made a name for herself with spots on the History Channel, Seeso, and an upcoming appearance on Colbert. See her around New York at shows at New York Comedy Club, Sing Sing Karaoke, and more:

  • June 25: New York Comedy Club
  • June 29: Sing Sing Karaoke
  • August 1: Helium Comedy Club
  • August 5: The Lantern

Dan Perlman

Dan Perlman is another comedian with an impressive résumé considering his lack of professional representation (he’s another “unrepped” New Face) – in addition to headlining Caroline’s, he also wrote and starred in Flatbush Misdemeanors, a wry slice-of-life webseries about life in Flatbush, Brooklyn, which was an Official Selection for Rooftop Films, the New York Television Festival, and more. He’s also performing stand up in New York next month, including dates at Precious Metal in Bushwick and Under Saint Marks Theatre:

  • July 29: Misfit Hive (Woodside, NY)
  • August 10: Precious Metal
  • August 11: BDA Studios
  • August 29: Under St. Marks Theatre

Michael Hartney

Michael Hartney is one of the Sketch “New Faces” at JFL this year, a well-deserved title after over a decade as a comedic actor, including UCB Comedy Originals and bit roles on 30 Rock and The Break with Michelle Wolf. He’s also part of the UCB Harold Team Ice Cold Bev, and performs regularly on the UCB showcase Characters Welcome. Recently, he has directed Shkreli! Portrait of a Pharma Bro, a regular UCB show that emerged from a Maude night sketch. Upcoming shows include Harold Night, Characters Welcome, and musical improv Rumpleteaser:

  • Harold Night every Tuesday @ UCB
  • August 20: Characters Welcome @ UCBeast
