Kadavar Dead Travel

Kadavar prep new album, playing US shows with Ruby the Hatchet

Kadavar

German stoner rockers Kadavar are releasing their fifth album, For The Dead Travel Fast, on October 11 via Nuclear Blast, which was self-recorded and self-produced by the band, and guitarist/vocalist Lupus says he tried to bring in influence from horror soundtracks like Suspiria, “but the other two weren’t too keen on the idea and preferred making a rock record rather than a synthie record.” You can still hear some of that eeriness creeping through on early singles “Children of the Night” and “The Devil’s Master,” though, both of which otherwise channel fuzzed-out proto-metal and ’60s psychedelic rock through a grainy, slightly modernized lens. If you’re unfamiliar with Kadavar but you’re into stuff like King Gizzard or Uncle Acid, you’ll probably dig these songs too. Check out the videos for both below.

Kadavar were recently in the US for Psycho Las Vegas and some West Coast shows (and that’s when they took the above picture at the Haight/Ashbury intersection), and they’ll be back later this year for more shows with well-matched support from Ruby the Hatchet, including an East Coast run that hits Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on December 12. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (9/20) at 10 AM. It appears that more shows may still be TBA but all currently announced dates are listed below.

Kadavar also made a DVD out of their live collaboration with four guest musicians named The Cosmic Riders of the Black Sun, which included Lupus duetting with Laura Carbone on a version of the band’s 2017 song “You Found The Best In Me.” The official live video of that is also out today, and the recording will appear on the limited edition version of For The Dead Travel Fast.
