Keith Morris guests on Tony Rettman’s radio show; OFF! auctioning off signed LP to raise money for John Stabb
Keith discusses his pre-punk influences and early love of LA radio rock (2:00) on to eventually discovering bands like Buzzcocks and The Damned (7:00), renting unconventional venues to play shows in an early Black Flag (9:00), not getting caught up in the label of hardcore and playing to have a good time (20:00) saying no to playing the Warped Tour (24:30), facing off against a “Wall of Death” at a show in NJ (29:00), the release date for his autobiography and the original cover art by Raymond Pettibon (designer of iconic Black Flag logo) (34:00), FLAG’s summer tour (56:00), and more.
They play Black Flag, Circle Jerks and OFF! on the show, as well as Night Birds, Violent Reaction, Middle Class, Rhino 39 and more. Keith has always been a guy who’s interesting to hear talk, and he’s full of stories from throughout his career on this show. Check out the whole thing below.
As announced earlier this week, FLAG — Keith’s current version of Black Flag with Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, Dez Cadena and Stephen Egerton — are touring soon. That includes a run with War On Women and The Dirty Nil that hits NYC on June 28 at Gramercy Theatre. FLAG were also just announced for Quebec’s Amnesia Rockfest. All dates here.
OFF! are also auctioning off a copy of their self-titled LP signed by all four members — Dimitri Coats, Steven McDonald, Mario Rubalcaba and Keith — and the proceeds will benefit John Stabb of Government Issue, who’s undergoing cancer treatment. You can bid on the LP here through Wednesday, March 30. There’s also a GoFundMe campaign set up for John.
