Khemmis detail new album 'Desolation,' share new song "Isolation"
Is new Sleep, Deafheaven, and YOB not enough new highly anticipated metal for you this week? Well, you’re in luck, because Khemmis have finally detailed their third album and released the first song. The album’s called Desolation and it comes out on June 22 via 20 Buck Spin/Nuclear Blast (pre-order), and the first single is “Isolation.” After two albums of crushing trad-doom, it’s immediately clear from “Isolation” that Khemmis are not repeating themselves this time. Vocalist Phil Pendergast lets his voice soooaaarrrrr more than he ever has, and while Khemmis’ twin leads have granted them Maiden/Priest/Thin Lizzy comparisons in the past (as they surely will again for “Isolation”), Khemmis never sounded as built for arenas as those bands were, but “Isolation” suggests that they’re aiming to change that. Khemmis may gain a lot of new fans with this one, and if they do, they deserve it. Watch the new song’s video (directed by Italo Ganni) and check out the tracklist below.
Khemmis also have some live shows coming up, including appearances at Maryland Deathfest, Heavy Montreal, and more. (They just played Roadburn yesterday.) They’ve also got a NYC show with Today Is The Day on May 26 at Saint Vitus (tickets). All dates are listed below too.
