Killing Joke

UK post-punk gods Killing Joke played their first of a set of North American dates at Irving Plaza on Friday (4/19), part of a short two-week tour. The band’s set was focused on their recently released singles retrospective, which gathers highlights of the band’s 30-year output into a double disc. As to be expected, the band’s live show is was tight, agressive and danceable, anchored by endless showmanship of wide-eyed maniac Jaz Coleman.

Middling Chicago band Czar opened the evening with a not so-becoming mix of Isis-style space-y post-metal, interrupted by open-string-chugga breakdowns that would sound at home on a Slipknot record. Not a fan.
