King Tuff preps new LP ft Ty Segall & Jenny Lewis, touring w/ Cut Worms

King Tuff (aka Kyle Thomas) will release The Other on April 13 via Sub Pop. It’s his first album in four years and follows time touring in Ty Segall’s band and some general soul searching. “I didn’t even know what I wanted to do anymore, but I still had this urge, like there was this possibility of something else I could be doing, ” says Kyle. “Then I just followed that possibility. To me, that’s what songwriting, and art in general, is about. You’re chasing something. ‘The Other’ is basically where songs come from. It’s the hidden world. It’s the invisible hand that guides you whenever you make something. It’s the thing I had to rediscover to bring me back to making music again in a way that felt true and good.”

Thomas produced the album himself and it features contributions from Ty Segall (drums), Jenny Lewis (vocals) and Mikal Cronin (saxophone). You can watch the voyeuristic video for “Psycho Star,” a lightly funky song that is unlike anything King Tuff has released before, and listen to The Other‘s title track, below.

Kyle will also be taking King Tuff on tour and Cut Worms will be joining, including a NYC show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 18. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, February 9 at 10 AM with an AmEx presale beginning Wednesday (2/7) at noon.
