Kip Berman of TPOBPAH playing solo; Peggy Wang in new band with Amy Rose Spiegel

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are still a going concern but main man (and only constant member) Kip Berman has a new project, The Natural. Kip says, “I want to write songs and play them for people, and forget about all the other nonsense that gets in the way of that.” As for what that sounds like, you can find out for yourself when Kip makes his The Natural live debut at Brooklyn’s Wonders of Nature on July 28 with Daniel Francis Doyle and headliners Air Waves. (it’s like a Cake Shop reunion!) Tickets are on sale now.

UPDATE: The Natural has also been added to Hatchie’s show at Baby’s All Right on October 2 (tickets).

Meanwhile, former TPOBPAH member Peggy Wang (whose birthday party was the impetus for the band) is playing in new group Store Front who are fronted by writer and Broadly Senior Editor Amy Rose Spiegel. (Bob Marshall, Brandon Louro, and Stephen Rose round out the group). Store Front have shared the demo of “Rip the Price Off” which is a little like Everything But the Girl by way of ’90s Liz Phair. It’s quite promising and you can stream it below.
