Jherek Bischoff & Kronos Quartet @ LC Out of Doors Fest 7/27/2013
The rain kept crowds away, but the band played on for Sunday’s finale (7/28) of the five-day “Kronos at 40″ celebration as part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival. It was the final night and undoubtedly the most indie rock friendly event of Kronos Quartet‘s run, as it featured a tribute to Pixies’ Surfer Rosa (which turned 25 this year) with help from the Asphalt Orchestra; plus collaborations with Dan Deacon, Jherek Bischoff, “atheist gospel trombone choir” The Heavens, and more. In addition to Surfer Rosa, they performed works by Bryce Dessner, Amon Toubin and Clint Mansell, and encored with one of their first forays into the pop world — their tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Pictures from the whole show are in this post.
Pictures from the first night of Kronos at 40 are here. More from last night below.
