Kvelertak debuted new lead singer (who sang backup on "Blodtorst")

After longtime Kvelertak frontman Erlend Hjelvik announced his departure from the band, the rest of Kvelertak promised to continue on with a new singer and new album, and that singer has been revealed. Erlend’s replacement is Ivar Nioklaisen, whose bands Silver and The Good, the Bad and the Zugly have toured with Kvelertak, and who actually sings backup vocals on “Blodtorst,” one of the highlights of Kvelertak’s debut album. “Ivar is the frontman we could hope for, and nothing is more natural for us than for him to take over the throne,” the band says. And Ivar adds:

I’ve been a huge fan of Kvelertak ever since I first saw them nearly ten years ago. It’s an honor to be a part of the band! I will not try to copy Erlend. Erlend is a lion. I’m just a small rat. But this rat is pissed off, infectious, and full of pestilence—ready to take this machine to new heights!

Kvelertak played their first show with Ivar at Fjellparken in Norway this past Friday (7/20), and you can see a video, some pictures and the setlist from that show below. The band also promises, “We will see you all on the road sooner than later.”
