L7 doc hitting theaters, playing Nitehawk in Brooklyn with BV-presented Q&A

Pretend We’re Dead, the L7 documentary film that premiered at DOC NYC Fest last year, will get a theatrical run across North America in September, a screening at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema on October 5, as part of the BrooklynVegan-presented “Music Driven” series. The screening (7:30 PM) will feature a Q&A with L7 guitarist Donita Sparks, as well as the film’s producer, Maria Aceves. Tickets are available now. All screening dates are listed below.

The film will be out on DVD/Bluray and digital-on-demand on October 13. It takes an inside look at the band’s career, following them from their 1985 beginnings to their initial breakup in 2001. The documentary also examines their impact on both the grunge and riot grrrl movements, and features interviews from many notable names, such as Shirley Manson (Garbage), Krist Novoselic, Butch Vig, Joan Jett, Lydia Lunch, Allison Robertson (The Donnas), Louise Post (Veruca Salt), CSS, and others.
