Laura Stevenson - The Big Freeze

Laura Stevenson announces 'The Big Freeze' & tour (stream "Living Room, NY")

Laura Stevenson has announced her fifth album, The Big Freeze, due out March 29, 2019 via Don Giovanni. It was produced by Joe Rogers, who engineered her 2015 album Cocksure. About making the album, Laura writes:

All of his recording gear was in a storage space in Jersey City, so last winter we loaded it into my childhood home on Long Island and set up a make-shift studio. There we could isolate ourselves and work on our own time, getting the best and most honest version of each song; every track began with just me singing and playing the guitar. All of the other instrumentation was built on top of that; strings, horns, organs, pianos, percussion, etc., but every note played was meant to serve what the song was saying. It was a really beautiful experience for me to make this record; it focuses on trying to heal old wounds, trying to stay hopeful, and trying not to let myself disappear.

The first single, “Living Room, NY” swells with the warmth of Laura’s multi-tracked vocals and its string backing. Listen to it below.

Laura heads out on a North American tour in May and early June, stopping in Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Vancouver, Seattle, and more. Her Brooklyn show happens at Rough Trade on May 24. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 8 at 10 AM, with an American Express presale starting Wednesday, February 6 at noon. At least a couple dates (Philly and Boston) are with Kississippi, which is a good pairing (no opener announced for Brooklyn yet though).

Before her May tour, Laura opens one of Jeff Rosenstock’s BrooklynVegan-presented shows at Bowery Ballroom: Saturday February 9, which is currently sold out. Next month she stops in Austin for SXSW. See all of her upcoming tour dates below.
