LCD Soundsystem have covered Heaven 17’s classic 1981 single “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang” as part of their Spotify Sessions. Like on their cover of Chic’s “I Want Your Love” from the same session, Nancy Whang takes lead vocals. They add some frenetic scratchy guitar but otherwise don’t mess with it too much, keeping the spazzed out, impressively funky bass. The song is 37 years old but, apart from some specific names, the lyrics could’ve been written now:
