Le Guess Who? 2019 lineup: Deerhunter, The Raincoats, Godflesh, more
The 2019 edition of Utrecht unique festival Le Guess Who?, which includes guest curators Jenny Hval, Moon Duo, avant-garde composer Patrick Higgins, UK electronic producer The Bug (aka Kevin Martin) and more, has just announced its initial lineup. It includes The Raincoats, Deerhunter, Cate le Bon, Yves Jarvis, Acid Mothers Temple, DJINN, Gruff Rhys, Pakistan Khyan singer Ustad Saami, Indian jazz fusion pioneer and Ornette Coleman collaborator Asha Puthli, Ethio-groove legend Ayalew Mesfin, and more.
As for curated programs, among the artists Moon Duo are presenting: Nivhek, the new project of Grouper’s Liz Harris; Swedish prog legends Träd, Gräs och Stenar (Träden), sound artist Michele Mercure, jazz group Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, and more
The Bug is presenting his own King Midas Sound project, Godflesh, the world premiere of a collaboration between Kevin Richard Martin and Japanese artist Hatis Noit, dancehall/dub legend Jah Shaka, ZONAL featuring Moor Mother, Sonic Boom, Earth, and more
Jenny Hval is presenting Lolina, the project of Alina Astrova (Inga Copeland, Hype Williams), Sarah Davachi (performing live with church organ and electronics), French sound artist Félicia Atkinson, and Oslo-based collective DNA? AND? Jenny herself will present new piece ‘The Practice of Love’ with a multi-national ensemble including “experimental musicians, vocalists, dancers and video artists.”
Patrick Higgins, meanwhile, presents Tyondai Braxton, pianist Conrad Tao, violinist Miranda Cuckson, and Vicky Chow.
Le Guess Who? 2019 happens November 7-10 in Utrecht, The Netherlands and passes are on sale now. More artists are still to be added, but you can check out the full initial lineup below.
