Lemuria Recreational Hate

Lemuria releasing new LP this week (hear a song), tell us their top LPs of 2017

Lemuria Recreational Hate

Long-running indie-punk staples Lemuria haven’t released an album since 2013’s very solid The Distance Is So Big, but that will change with this Friday’s (12/15) Recreational Hate, which was just officially announced earlier this week. (In August they launched pre-orders for a “secret LP,” which ended up being this album.) They made the album with producer and engineer Chris Shaw, and they said, “We chose to work with him, in part, for his very eclectic discography, including the Weezer ‘Blue’ album, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Ice Cube, Wilco, Public Enemy, Modest Mouse, A Tribe Called Quest, Ween and Lou Reed.” The album is also the first release for the band’s own Turbo Worldwide imprint, which they launched with the help of Asian Man Records and Big Scary Monsters.

Ahead of the album’s release, we’re premiering the track “More Tunnel,” which has Sheena Ozzella and Alex Kerns’s overlapping and harmonizing vocals sounding as excellent as ever over a grungy power pop backdrop (you can definitely hear that Weezer “Blue” album influence). It’s fleshed out by a little synth here and a little acoustic guitar there, and it’s very worth checking out. Listen below.

We also asked Alex Kerns what his top 10 albums of 2017 were, and he sent us a list that includes Lorde, Kamasi Washington, Cayetana, Run the Jewels, Pissed Jeans, The Menzingers, Aimee Mann and more. Check out his full list below.

As recently mentioned, Lemuria are going on a short West Coast tour with Jeff Rosenstock (who plays NYC tonight) in February. Those dates are listed below too.
