Les Claypool's Duo de Twang touring, playing McKittrick Hotel after Sleep No More (dates)

by Doug Moore

Duo De Twang

So here’s a novel live package: though Primus haven’t announced any tour dates for 2014 yet, bassist/vocalist/legendary weirdo Les Claypool will return to the road at least once this year with his bizarre skiffle-shred Americana project Duo De Twang, who will play a run of North American dates from January through March in support of their upcoming debut album Four Foot Shack. (You can preorder it here if you’re a Claypool devotee.)

Anything involving Claypool will probably be at least a little odd, but the 2/27 NYC date at the McKittrick Hotel will be extra gonzo. The hotel is also home to Sleep No More, Punchdrunk’s chaotic, creepy (and popular!) experimental production of Macbeth. Duo De Twang’s gig is being billed as part of an SNM performance; they’ll play after the theatrical segment. Sleep No More has featured musical guests before, notably Jim James of My Morning Jacket and MMJ collaborators Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

You can preorder tickets for the 2/27 combined gig here. They’re a little steep at $130; if you just want to see Duo De Twang, you can catch them in on 2/28 in Woodstock, NY at the Bearsville Theater (tix here). Sleep No More-only tickets can be had for $80 on pretty much the day of your choosing.
