A rainy and cool evening might not have been ideal weather for Central Park SummerStage‘s kickoff to their 2018 season, but it was a fitting, Glastonbury-esque soggy backdrop for a show featuring two of Britpop’s most iconic voices: Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft.

The former singers of Oasis and The Verve are on tour together and played lots of their old band’s favorites in addition to solo material. Liam’s set kicked off with “Rock n’ Roll Star” and “Morning Glory” and also included “Some Might Say,” “D’You Know What I Mean,” “Cigarettes and Alcohol,” “Supersonic” and “Live Forever” (but no “Wonderwall”). Ashcroft, who commented on the turnout by saying it was “like Altamont without all the stabbing,” played solo acoustic versions of Verve favorites “On Your Own,” “Sonnet,” “Lucky Man,” “The Drugs Don’t Work,” and more. He did not play “Bittersweet Symphony,” however, perhaps not wanting to give any more money to Allen Klein than he already has…though he did sing a couple lines before leaving the stage.

Setlists for Liam and Richard’s sets are below and pictures are in the gallery above.

Both Gallagher and Ashcroft are opening for The Rolling Stones this year.
