Liars detail new LP 'TFCF,' share "Cred Woes," expand tour

liars

Liars have announced details of their new album — it’s titled TFCF (which stands for Theme From Crying Fountain) and it’s out August 25 via Mute. (Preorder yours.) Main man Angus Andrew went back to his native Australia to record this one, using sounds he recorded in the bush:

A lot of the sounds I was working on were samples, they lived inside my computer, but I still wanted to have a connection with everything around me. So everything I was recording was in context of the world outside the studio… Sometimes I’d have my headphones on, just listening to the bush, and a bird would fly up and scream into the microphone. The truth is, even in New York or LA, I was still pretty isolated. Here, there are no other people around, but I feel much more connected to the environment around me than in a big city.

The album has other surprising sonic developments, too. “There’s acoustic guitar all over this record! How ridiculous is that?” exclaims Angus. You can listen to first single “Cred Woes” and check out TFCF‘s tracklist and artwork, below.

You can catch Liars on tour later this year, including the NYC show at Warsaw on September 21 with Yvette (tickets). They’ve added more tour dates since our last post — including Desert Daze fest in Joshua Tree, CA — and Liars’ updated tour schedule is below.
