Lil Wayne cancels Rolling Loud set

It’s been a rough weekend for festivals; CA’s Like Totally Music Festival was cancelled entirely at the last minute, and on the East Coast, NC’s Epicenter Festival had its Saturday evacuated and several band’s sets cancelled due to severe weather. South of Epicenter in FL, Rolling Loud Miami is also happening this weekend, and that’s where Lil Wayne just cancelled his Saturday night (5/11) set. “To all my fans who came to see me at Rolling Loud, I’m sorry but I won’t be performing,” he wrote on Twitter. “The Festival Police (Not Rolling Loud) made it mandatory that I had to be policed and checked to get on the stadium grounds. I do not and will not ever settle for being policed to do my job and give you guys a great show. I will be at Story tonight for the afterparty and you kan katch me on tour with my bros Blink 182 this summer!”

Last summer, Lil Wayne cancelled his scheduled set at NYC’s Panorama (where he was replacing Cardi B) due to a delayed flight. He hits the road with blink-182 this summer; hopefully those shows will go better.

Lil Wayne’s Rolling Loud cancellation comes after Kodak Black was arrested at the festival on weapons charges. A Miami-Date police department spokesperson confirmed his arrest to the Miami Herald, who report that Black faces state and federal charges.

Rolling Loud also released a statement about an incident from Friday, when a stampede broke out following false reports of an active shooter. “Shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday night, there was a disturbance that led a large group of fans to believe there was an active shooter within the festival grounds,” festival co-founder Tariq Cherif writes. “The commotion resulted in these fans running out of the venue, some of whom were injured and/or scared in the process. Security and public authorities immediately sprung into action, established it was a false alarm and there was not an active shooter in the festival, and diffused the situation. Safety is #1 at Rolling Loud. We have hundreds of police officers and security guards hired to protect our fans. While we are upset this situation occurred, we are proud of the swift reaction of law enforcement to verify the area was secure. Thank you for understanding. Let’s all come together today with positivity and have a great day.”
