Lincoln Center Out of Doors

Lincoln Center Out of Doors 2016 lineup (Patti Smith, M. Ward, Margaret Glaspy, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Darlene Love, more)

Last month, it was revealed that Laurie Anderson would be co-curating a Lou Reed tribute for this year’s annual Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, and now the full schedule for Season 46 is here.

It runs from July 20 to August 7 with free outdoor performances at various Lincoln Center venues. Opening night is “a night of words and music” with the legendary Patti Smith and her bandmates Lenny Kaye and Tony Shanahan, and opening set from mariachi band Mariachi Flor de Toloache (who you may have seen with Dan Auerbach’s band The Arcs). That one happens at 7:30 PM at the Damrosch Park Bandshell.

Other highlights include The Hallelujah Train featuring Pastor Brady Blade Sr., Brian Blade, Daniel Lanois, and guests Ladysmith Black Mambazo on July 21; a spotlight on ’60s girl group singers called ‘She’s a Rebel’ on July 23; Darlene Love also on July 23; AFROPUNK Girrrl Riot with SATE, The VeeVees and more TBA on July 27; soul revivalist Eli “Paperboy” Reed on July 29; an Okayafrica-presented show with afrobeat artists Davido and Antibalas also on 7/29; an NPR Music show on August 4 (with artists TBA); indie singer/songwriters M. Ward and Margaret Glaspy on August 5; the third annual Americanafest NYC on August 6 & 7 (lineup TBA); and more.
