Lingua Ignota expands tour supporting new album ‘Caligula’

Lingua Ignota

As a gothy, outré, vocal powerhouse, Lingua Ignota has gotten her fair share of comparisons to Diamanda Galas, and she is indeed in the lineage of artists that Galas helped paved the way for, but she is very much a force of her own. She sings in a theatrical, dark-cabaret kind of way one minute, but then lets out shrieks as harsh and blood-curling as any noise, industrial, or black metal band the next. All the while, the instrumentation sounds straight out of the score of a horror film. The songs sound clearly inspired by theater and film, and the imagery in her lyrics is vivid enough to make you feel like you’re getting the full cinematic experience even without any actual visuals. [Notable Releases 7/19]

Kristin Hayter released her excellent new album as Lingua Ignota, Caligula, last month; stream it in full below, find part of our review above, and read an interview with Kristin over on Invisible Oranges. As mentioned, she’s going on tour in support of it starting in September, including a show at new Gowanus, Brooklyn venue Public Records on September 15. That’s now sold out, so she’s added a second Brooklyn date, a late show at Saint Vitus on September 18. Tickets to Vitus are on sale now.

Lingua Ignota’s tour also include a sets Basilica Soundscape in Hudson NY, Levitation in Austin, dates opening for Daughters on the West Coast, and more; see them all below.
