listen to previously unreleased Prince song "Moonbeam Levels"

A never-before released Prince song, “Moonbeam Levels,” has been included on a new compilation of the late pop star’s work, titled Prince 4Ever. The song, in Prince’s signature gritty ballad style (a la “Darling Nikki”) was recorded during the 1982 sessions for Purple Rain and was debuted via ABC News who played it for a group of fans at New York’s Cutting Room Recording Studios. Listen to the song and watch the following fan discussion, below.

While this is the first official release of “Moonbeam Levels,” the song was covered by Elvis Costello at the Carnegie Hall “Music of Prince” tribute in 2014 and you can watch that below.

It’s the only new song on Prince 4Ever, but a special edition of Purple Rain is due out in 2017 that will “arrive with a second album of previously unreleased material.” Stay tuned for details on that.
