Terry Malts release Lost at the Party, their first new album in three years, on Friday (10/14). After two records of blown-out, buzzsaw pop, the Malts take their foot off the gas just a bit this time, letting in a little of the new wave that members Corey Cunningham and Phil Benson made with Magic Bullets seep back into the mix. There’s still a lot of JAMC, The Wedding Present and The Undertones, but they let things nicely jangle too. They even get quiet on “Waiting for the Bomb” (at least till the wait is over). That song’s dread and malaise permeates the lyrical vibe of Lost at the Party, a feeling a lot of people in 2016 can identify with. It’s all wrapped up in boppy, hum-along choruses (and more than a smidge of hope), thankfully. As on previous records, Terry Malts sound best loud. Crank it up — a stream of the whole LP premieres in this post.

The band’s tour starts next week and Terry Malts will be in Brooklyn at Shea Stadium on October 24 with Kissing is a Crime and Rips. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All tour dates are listed below.
