Lizzo playing American Express show in NYC for WorldPride

Pride Month, aka June, is looking extra rainbow for WorldPride, the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, this year, with everyone from The MTA to Taylor Swift getting in the spirit. American Express has launched a “Proudly Backing” campaign, Adweek reports, which is set to include, among other things (like a LinkNYC screen takeover along the Pride March route), a cardholder-exclusive performance from Lizzo. It happens at NYC hotel Times Square EDITION on June 26, and proceeds from ticket sales go to the Stonewall Community Foundation.

If you don’t land tickets, the show will also be livestreamed in Times Square, along with a real-time “music visualization” projected behind Lizzo from artist Shantell Martin.

“I’ve always stood up for inclusivity and been an advocate for underrepresented communities, and that’s why I am so happy to help American Express launch their new ‘Proudly Backing’ campaign to send an important message of love and support to the LGBTQ+ community,” Lizzo said in a statement.

St. Vincent is also involved in a brand’s Pride plans, although not with a performance (as far as we know). She’s teamed up with Microsoft and The Ally Coalition for “Feel the Pride,” which is described as an “immersive installation celebrating WorldPride, featuring soundscape by St. Vincent.” More info:

Feel the Pride, an immersive experience that takes guests on a journey through the feelings behind Pride, will run June 15-30, located at 568 Broadway (at Prince St.) in New York City. Users first share what Pride means to them – either at the installation or on Twitter using #FeelThePride. Microsoft’s Sentiment Analysis then translates these messages into a generative sound and light experience. Sounds by St. Vincent and a colorful lighting display evolve based on the sentiment of each message, representing the global community’s feelings about Pride. Once guests have experienced the installation, they have the opportunity to take action through signing up online to volunteer, learn more, or donate through LGBTQI + activist organization GLAAD.
