Local Natives played a small NYC show

Local Natives

It’s no surprise Local Natives are fans of hosting impromptu concerts, and Wednesday night they did just that. The band played an intimate show at Rough Trade, promoting their new album Sunlit Youth that comes out September 9 via Loma Vista Recordings/Infectious Music.

Local Natives played a few songs from the new album, saying they were so excited to share what they’ve been working on for the past two years. Noteworthy never before heard songs included “Dark Days” and “Masters”. While introducing the songs the band gave some background on their meaning and their song writing process. “Dark Days” was created to be an ode to the few gloomy days in SoCal, saying the dreary weather makes for a romantic atmosphere. “Masters” is the last song the band wrote for their new album, and it was completed while on a group writing trip to Nicaragua.

Although the new songs were exciting to hear, nothing got the crowd going like their popular songs from their previous two albums. “Who Knows Who Cares”, “Ceilings” and “Airplanes” all made it to the setlist, with an encore of “Sun Hands” which included a crowd-surf from singer/guitarist Taylor Rice. The band and crowd’s energy was high and fun-loving during the whole set.

Local Natives are playing two shows at NYC’s Terminal 5 on October 25 and 26. Tickets are still available. All tour dates HERE.
