Sixteen years since his filmmaking debut, Louis C.K. will finally return as a feature director with I Love You, Daddy. It’s set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and stars several big names alongside CK, including John Malkovich, Chloe Grace Moretz, Charlie Day, Helen Hunt, Rose Byrne, and frequent collaborator Pamela Aldon. The film was shot in 35mm black-and-white and made entirely in secret.

This will be Louis C.K.’s first film in the director’s chair since 2001’s Pootie Tang, a film something he (and the box office) deemed a failure — he and Paramount famously fought over the edit — and claimed “should have never been made.” Despite his reservations about the film, Pootie Tang has garnered cult status over the years.

Louis C.K. has come a long way since them, having written, directed and edited five seasons of acclaimed series Louie, and made last year’s dark drama Horace & Pete which he released via his website. Louis also  put out a new stand-up special earlier this year via Netflix (watch the trailer below).
