Lucinda Williams doing "final" run of 'Car Wheels On A Gravel Road' shows

Alt-country vet Lucinda Williams celebrated the 20th anniversary of one of her most classic albums, 1998’s Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, on a tour last year, and she has been continuing to perform the album in full on tour this year too. She is now saying that she’ll be announcing more Car Wheels shows “over the course of the next week or so,” and that these will be the final anniversary shows for the album:

Over the course of the next week or so, we will be announcing more 20th Anniversary Car Wheels shows in August and September. With the probable exception of two shows in LA and SF in October, this run will be the final Car Wheels 20th Anniversary shows. We have been blown away by the reception and ongoing demand for these shows. When we came up with the 20th Anniversary idea we thought we would maybe do a handful of them and that would be it. But word of mouth has traveled about how special these shows are and the demand to do more has been unbelievable. In addition to saying that these will be the final shows we want to thank everyone for their incredible support of these 20th Anniversary shows. What was going to be 10-12 shows has now turned into a run of almost a full year of almost completely sold out shows. Thank you, thank you, thank you and we hope you won’t miss one of these final shows – they truly are special!

While it seems like more are TBA, a handful are already announced including a newly-added NYC-area show happening September 20 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (6/7) at noon with presales beforehand. All currently announced dates HERE and stay tuned for more updates.

In related news, Lucinda produced the new Jesse Malin album, Sunset Kids (due 8/30), and she also sings on lead single “Room 13,” which came out yesterday. (Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is on the album too.) Jesse also plays a hometown NYC show on September 14 at Webster Hall and he’ll be joined by Alejandro Escovedo, Tommy Stinson, Joseph Arthur, Matthew Ryan, and “special guests” (tickets).
