History Is Made At Night

Lydia Lunch playing shows, featured in NY punk photo book 'History is Made at Night'

No wave legend Lydia Lunch will be hosting a series of free events at NYC’s Roxy Hotel on July 11 and July 26 featuring “scandalous storytelling” from Lunch, Jerry Stahl, and downtown perennials Bibbe and Zoe Hansen. The show will also feature free jazz sets from her Retrovirus bandmates Weasel Walter and Tim Dahl, as well as Chris Pitsiokos. The talks promise a host of “sleazy” stories from NYC’s hectic underground history. Check out more info.

Lydia Lunch’s Retrovirus are coming off two east-coast performances with Philly noise-punks Pissed Jeans, including last week’s NYC show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. Retrovirus have promised Europe shows this December, with more details to follow.

Lunch and fellow no wave pioneers like James Chance and Anya Phillips are also prominently featured in David Godlis‘s brand new NY punk-themed photo book, History is Made at Night, showcasing the seedy nightlife of the ’70s Bowery. (It’s also got Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, an intro by Jim Jarmusch, and more.) The punk photographer was able to organize the first compilation of his iconic photos via a Kickstarter campaign he began in 2014. You can check out more photos from the book, and pick up a copy, here.

James Chance also plays a NYC show on July 28 at Bowery Electric with Five Dollar Priest, Future Punx and Bueno. Tickets are on sale.
