M83 @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC – pics
photos by Bao Nguyen
M83 played their 2nd of two NYC shows at Bowery Ballroom last night (June 4, 2008). The first NYC show was at Music Hall of Williamsburg one night earlier….
Much like the band’s namesake, a galaxy that’s close enough to see with binoculars, the set burned with a ferocity implacably distanced from the non-performers. (Note to Music Hall of Williamsburg: if you’re intending to aid this sense of chilly isolation, continue to keep your AC on wind tunnel mode.) [Impose]
Showtrotta was at that one too (stay tuned). M83 played the Middle East in Cambridge the night before that (and temperature again seemed to play a role)…
At 11 o’clock, we finally witnessed M83 appear on the dank and dated main stage to the delight of 300 hot and sweaty people, many below ‘see’ level. The band consisted of a bass, keyboard, guitar, drums (excellent drummer by the way), and the magic of Anthony Gonzalez’s electronic sound effects, guitar, and loud, non-organic fuzz…..The music was still playing at 12:02am when Alex and I left the swamp-like room. The temperature downstairs must have been at least 100 degrees – no AC, no windows, no air at all other than what little trickled down the stairs at the back of the room. [J Boucher]
How was the temperature at Bowery Ballroom? More pictures from that show below….
