Machine Girl playing release show at Vitus w/ .gif from god before Code Orange tour

Machine Girl, the noise/industrial project of NYC musician Matthew Stephenson, were recently announced to open Code Orange‘s tour alongside Show Me The Body, Jesus Piece, and Year of the Knife, and it looks like he’ll have new music out before then too. Before the Code Orange tour, Machine Girl is playing a hometown show at Saint Vitus on February 27 and he calls it “MAYBE UHHH SOME SORT OF [RELEASE] SHOW ?!?” His last release was 2018’s The Ugly Art, which was Machine Girl’s first release as a duo with live drums (by Sean Kelly), and Sean’s intense, complex drumming adds a whole new layer to Machine Girl’s already-chaotic sound, which kind of sounds like the middle ground between Godflesh, Squarepusher, and HEALTH. That Saint Vitus show is also with Richmond sass/screamo/metalcore band .gif from god, who released their pulverizing, chaotic sophomore album approximation_of_a_human on Prosthetic Records last fall, and who make for a killer pairing with Machine Girl. Rounding out the bill on the Saint Vitus show is local electronic musicians Abby and LustSickPuppy, and a set from noise musicians Channel 93 vs Sweet Zach vs Grooming vs Afterlife.Online under the name Versus (not to be confused with the indie rock band). Tickets are on sale now.

There’s no NYC show on that Code Orange tour, but locals Show Me the Body also have their own headlining show here happening May 30 at Warsaw (tickets). Machine Girl and SMTB also play Reno together during a short break in the Code Orange tour (the day after Code Orange play Coachella Weekend Two). All Machine Girl dates are listed below.

Code Orange also just added a hometown Pittsburgh release show happening March 14 at Roxian Theater with the stacked lineup of Every Time I Die, Zao, Jesus Piece, Machine Girl, and Facewreck. Tickets go on sale Friday (1/31) at 10 AM with a presale starting Tuesday (1/28) at 10 AM.
