Macy's 4th of July Fireworks back on East River in 2014 ++ Coney Island 2014 summer fireworks schedule

One good thing about having a Brooklynite for a mayor is that the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks are now back on the East River, after a four-year stretch of being on the Hudson. Said Bill de Blasio:

I’m thrilled that, after years of working with Macy’s and my colleagues to make this a reality, the fireworks will return to the East River this year! Now even more New Yorkers will get to take part in this extraordinary celebration, against the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge, the harbor and our skyline.

Macy’s first moved them to the Hudson in 2009 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage up the river, and kept them there.

In other NYC fireworks news, one of the city’s other big 4th of July displays — Coney Island — is still up in the air for 2014. The city has granted fireworks permits for all the other Fridays this summer EXCEPT Friday, July 4. Does this have anything to do with Macy’s move back to the East River? The Department of Parks and Recreation declined to comment when NY1 inquiried. We shall see.

Meanhwhile, the rest of the summer’s fireworks at Coney Island are all set. The season kicks off with “Fireworks Week” at Brooklyn Cyclones stadium, with displays going off after the first three home games of the season: Opening Day (Saturday, June 14), then Monday, June 16, and Tuesday, June 17. There will then be fireworks after every Friday game through August 22 (with Fourth of July still a question mark, though they’re listed on the Cyclones schedule). There are a few other nights fireworks will happen at Coney Island, all of which are also “theme nights”:

Saturday, July 5 (vs. Aberdeen IronBirds) “Seinfeld 25th Anniversary Celebraton”

Saturday, July 19 (vs Williamsport Crosscutters) “Country Music Night”

Saturday, July 26 (vs Vermont Lake Monsters) “Elvis Night”

Saturday, Aug 2 (vs Connecticut Tigers) “Star Wars Night”

Wednesday, Aug 13 (vs Lowell Spinners) “Kosher Kaboom Fireworks”

Saturday, Aug 23 (vs Tri-City Valley Cats) “Princess Night”

Sunday, Aug 27 (vs Staten Island Yankees) last game of the season

And don’t forget June 21 is the 2014 Coney Island Mermaid Parade.
