Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: De La Soul, Regina Spektor, Muppets & more

macys-parade

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a holiday tradition for many Americans though most folks in NYC opt to stay home and watch it on television like the rest of the country. There have always been musical performances (albeit usually lip-synched) in the parade, though very rarely acts that BrooklynVegan covers (though the late Sharon Jones did in 2013). This year, however, the Macy’s parade has some interesting acts you can watch while your stuffing is in the oven, including De La Soul, Regina Spektor, Tony Bennett, The Muppets, Aloe Blacc, Fitz & the Tantrums, Beyonce proteges Chloe x Halle, and 12-year-old America’s Got Talent breakout performer Grace Vanderwaal (who is in NYC for a couple other holiday events).

If you want to watch the parade in person, we salute you, and the route starts at Central Park West and 77th St at 9 AM Thursday morning (though people are jockeying for position the night before) and goes down via 6th Ave to Herald Square. You can also avoid the throngs of people and just watch it on NBC beginning at 9 AM.
