Madeline Kenney‘s 2017 debut album Night Night At The First Landing was produced by Chaz Bear (aka Toro y Moi) and released on his Company Records label, and Madeline since signed to Carpark Records (which is also home to Toro y Moi) for her sophomore album Perfect Shapes, which comes out on October 5. This one was produced by Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes’ Jenn Wasner, and it was a very collaborative album, with both Madeline and Jenn playing multiple instruments on it. Jenn said, “The first time I heard the songs that would come together to form Madeline Kenney’s Perfect Shapes, I understood what it felt like to really have a piece of art speak directly to you…hearing her words felt like someone whispering in my ear the contents of my own mind. This was my first time producing music other than my own, and it was one of the only times I’ve ever experienced working exclusively with women. And it was a creative experience unlike any I’ve ever had.”

Madeline is currently streaming three fairly different sounding songs from the album: the atmospheric album opener “Overhead,” the poppy lead single “Cut Me Off,” and the just-released “Bad Ideas.” This new one shares a similar atmospheric vibe with “Overhead,” but it’s got clattering percussion and it’s a little more hypnotic. Talking about the new song, Madeline said, “I wrote it when I was starting to tour more and pursuing things that matter to me, while trying and failing to juggle things that remained back at home. It’s the feeling of being at once the driver and passenger in your life as it moves forward.” Listen to all three songs below.

Madeline is also touring. She’s one of the just-announced artists on the stacked lineup for Netherlands festival Le Guess Who?, and she’s got North American dates before that, including Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on November 1 (tickets). All dates are listed below.
