Manchester Orchestra and Julien Baker not only have mutual admiration for each other, but they collaborated back in 2016 on a Pedro the Lion cover. Manchester Orchestra teased it on Instagram that year, but the recording didn’t see the light of day until today, the same year that Pedro the Lion are finally making a new album and touring again.

The song they covered is “Bad Things To Such Good People,” and they gave it an atmospheric, piano-fueled twist that’s noticeably different from the original but excellent in its own right. Julien and Andy Hull’s voices sound brilliant together too, as you can hear for yourself below.

Proceeds from the downloads and streaming of the song will be donated to 1 Million 4 Anna, “a Foundation dedicated to Anna Basso with the mission to eradicate Ewing sarcoma. The Foundation’s main initiative is to fund promising Ewing sarcoma research, and also provides college scholarships for survivors as well as support to families with a family member receiving treatment.”

“When the time came to release this cover, I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise money and gain attention for 1 Million 4 Anna, with which we have a deep connection and history,” said Andy. “I had the privilege of meeting the Basso family some eight years ago through their daughter Anna, who was battling Ewing sarcoma. One of her goals before she graduated high school was to come and see a Manchester show, and when we met, we were overwhelmed at her outlook and positivity in life. Unfortunately, Anna passed away not longer after. Getting to know her family has pushed our band to help fight this disease that’s affecting young people all over the world.”

Both Julien Baker and Manchester Orchestra are touring this year. Julien will be in the NYC-area for a sold-out show at Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall with Tancred in April, and a big Prospect Park show with Courtney Barnett and Vagabon in July (tickets).

Manchester Orchestra will be in NYC for day two of Governors Ball, the same day as The Gaslight Anthem (playing The ’59 Sound), Japandroids, The Menzingers, and more.
