Margaret Glaspy Devotion

Margaret Glaspy announces synthy new album & tour, shares lead single

Margaret Glaspy has announced her sophomore album, Devotion, due March 27 via ATO (pre-order), nearly four years after her 2016 debut LP Emotions and Math (and two years since her Born Yesterday EP). Previously, Margaret worked in an indie rock singer/songwriter style, but as you can hear on lead single “Killing What Keeps Us Alive,” Margaret and producer Tyler Chester went in a more electronic direction this time, using tools like MIDI and Ableton, manipulating her vocals, and bringing in synth atmospheres, electronic drums, and more. “I went down a bunch of rabbit holes – Ableton, just synthesizers in general – and I dabbled in Max/MSP, just started to brush up on ways of making music that I wasn’t acquainted with,” she told The FADER. “It has been amazing to be able to stretch out, to not define myself just by the music I make, but to follow my nose toward all the things that make me happy.” The new direction suits her well — listen for yourself and watch the video below.

Margaret is also playing SXSW and touring after that, including two nights at Brooklyn’s Bell House on April 14 and 15. Tickets for those shows go on sale Friday, January 31 at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
