Mark Kozelek sees $uicideboy$ poster for ‘I Want To Die In New Orleans,’ retitles his LP ‘I Also Want To Die In New Orleans’

Sun Kil Moon

Mark Kozelek released two albums in 2018 — a self-titled solo album and the recently released Sun Kil Moon album This is My Dinner, both of which you can stream below. He’ll have another album out soon which is a collaboration with Bowie band member Donny McCaslin and Dirty Three’s Jim White. That was originally simply titled Mark Kozelek with Donny McCaslin and Jim White, but Mark decided to change it when he saw a poster for the $uicideboy$ album I Want to Die In New Orleans. The Mark/Donny/Jim record is now a Sun Kil Moon album titled I Also Want to Die in New Orleans and will be out March 1 on Caldo Verde Records. You can check out the artwork and tracklist below.

As the label notes, Mark’s love for New Orleans is genuine and has been referenced in various songs throughout his career: Sun Kil Moon’s “April” (named after a waitress he met at New Orleans’ Cafe Du Monde), Sun Kil Moon’s “Universal Themes,” this year’s self titled album, and his music video “Mariette” from the 2013 Mark Kozelek and Desertshore LP.

In other news, Mark’s holiday show with Kevin Corrigan is Sunday (12/2) at The Loft at City Winery in NYC and tickets are still available. If you want to start your Very Kozelek Christmas now, you can listen to his 2014 album of Christmas carols, as well as watch video of him performing “Do You Hear What I Hear”, “White Christmas” and “I Cried During Wall Street” from his recent European tour, below.

Mark’s only other upcoming tour date is at Buffalo’s Rec Room on February 15 with Ben Boye and Jim White.

Donny McCaslin, meanwhile, will play with his band as part of BRIC House’s 2019 season.
