Martina Topley-Bird sings on debut single from Rich Morel's Hyper-Romantic (watch the video)

Producer, songwriter and musician Rich Morel has been working in dance music since the mid-’90s. As part of Deep Dish, he’s been an in-demand remixer (Madonna, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, more), is one half of Blowoff with Bob Mould, released three solos albums as Morel and was a member of Dischord-signed post-punk act Deathfix that also included Fugazi’s Brendan Canty. Morel’s new project was born of the idea to focus on romanticism and those intentions are right there in its name: Hyper-Romantic. The debut single is “Millennial Heart” which was co-written and features lead vocals by Martina Topley-Bird who sang on early Tricky albums. It’s a lush, string-laden production, very disco, and poppier than most of what Topley-Bird is known for.

The video, made by animator by Scott G Brooks, plays off themes of inclusion and romanticism while hitting on some very of-the-moment social and political issues. “‘Millennial Heart’ is a love song and a call for generations to come together and stop the regressive menace we are living under,” says Rich. “I wanted the video to tell that part of the story. Who knew that we could have included a scene with millennial hearts beating up presidential tweets before they can mail pipe bombs to critics. What fun. The video, with Scott Brooks’ genius animations, manages to maintain humor. Without humor it would be didactic and that’s not the point. It is a dance song after all.” The video premieres in this post and you can watch below.
