Massive Attack

Massive Attack began 'Mezzanine' tour w/ Liz Fraser & Horace Andy, covered Velvet Underground, The Cure, more

Trip hop vets Massive Attack began their ‘Mezzanine XXI’ tour celebrating their classic 1998 album Mezzanine in Glasgow last night (1/28). As promised, they had Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser (who sings on Mezzanine) with them, and they also had reggae vet Horace Andy (who’s also on Mezzanine). They played every song on Mezzanine and did covers of songs that they sampled for the album, including The Velvet Underground’s “I Found A Reason” (sampled on “Risingson”), The Cure’s “10:15 Saturday Night” (sampled on “Man Next Door”), Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” (sampled on “Risingson”), Ultravox’s “Rockwrok” (sampled on “Inertia Creeps”), and Horace Andy’s own “See A Man’s Face” (sampled on “Exchange”). Some of these songs hadn’t been performed live by Massive Attack since around Mezzanine‘s release, and some of the covers had never been performed live by them at all. Filmmaker Adam Curtis, who collaborated with Massive Attack on their high-concept 2013 shows (like at Park Avenue Armory), created the visuals. Check out videos from the show and the full setlist, below.

As mentioned, the tour hits NYC on March 15 & 16 at Radio City Music Hall. Both shows are sold out (only resale tickets are available). Updated dates are listed below.
