Mastodon/Tool supergroup tease LP, making live debut with Primus on NYE
The Legend of the Seagullmen is a nautical-themed supergroup formed by Mastodon vocalist/guitarist Brent Hinds, Tool drummer Danny Carey, OFF! guitarist (and Burning Brides frontman) Dimitri Coats, and film animator/director Jimmy Hayward (Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo). They released two songs in 2015, “The Deep Sea Diver” and “Ships Wreck,” and JImmy Hayward recently posted on Instagram that test pressings of the band’s debut album are done, so hopefully we’ll hear more details on the album soon. Jimmy’s post also revealed that Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (who plays with Brent Hinds in Gone Is Gone) is somehow involved too.
UPDATE: The band posted their full lineup, which does not include Dimitri Coats, but does include vocalist David Dreyer, guitarist Tim Dawson, bassist Pete Griffin (who plays with Brent in Giraffe Tongue Orchestra), and keyboardist Chris “Maddog” Digiovanni.
The Legend of the Seagullmen will make their live debut opening for Primus on New Year’s Eve at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Tickets go on sale Friday (10/20) at 10 AM Pacific with various presales starting today (10/19) at 10 AM Pacific.
That show follows Primus’ two-night stand at LA’s The Wiltern on 12/29 & 12/30, and Primus’ tour also lands in NYC for a different holiday: Halloween at Brooklyn Steel (tickets). A couple days before that, they play NYC-area venue The Capitol Theatre (10/29) (tickets). Updated Primus dates are listed below.
