Matt Pond & Chris Hansen covered Peter Gabriel's "Mercy Street" (listen)

Matt Pond and his Matt Pond PA bandmate Chris Hansen have been busy this year with a radio show and also with releasing new (free) music, like their Deer Apartments LP, their Free Fall EP, and their recent Led Zeppelin cover. They’ve now got another new cover, a take on Peter Gabriel‘s “Mercy Street.” They stay faithful to the original while also making it their own, giving it that trademark indie-folk spin that their own work has. If you didn’t know any better, you might just think it’s a new Matt Pond PA song.

Like the rest of the music Matt and Chris put out this year, it’s being given away for free (downloads will be available here), but first a stream of the song makes its premiere below. The song is also being released alongside the final episode of their radio show. Here’s what Matt tells us:

Chris Hansen and I, we now make whatever crosses our minds in order to reach a few other minds. Our cover of Mercy Street is being released alongside the final episode of the radio show we’ve been producing this year. The show is called In Dreams and airs on the local community station, Radio Kingston, and in this last episode we’ve interviewed two Dreamers — women who grew up in this country undocumented. With all of it, we advocate for nothing but the give and take of listening.

We’ve released a boatload of free music this fall. Everything we have, including Mercy Street, will be available until the end of the week. Then it’s time to hibernate and build it back up again.
