Matthew Sweet preps new LP (stream "Country Girl"), touring w/ Tommy Keene -- win tix to the NYC show!

Matthew Sweet is releasing his first album in six years, a 17-song double album titled Tomorrow Forever, this week via his own Honeycomb Hideout label. Matthew made the album at his new Black Squirrel Submarine studio in his native Omaha, NB, and the record features his longtime rhythm section of Paul Chastain and Ric Menck (both of Velvet Crush), as well as the Bangles’ Debbi Peterson and a “keyboard cameo” from The Zombies’ Rod Argent. The songs were written following the death of his mother, and soul-searching themes permeate the record. But musically this is the Matthew Sweet you know, with chiming guitars, and soaring melodies/harmonies. Those qualities are evident in “Country Girl,” which makes its premiere in this post. Listen below.

You can preorder Tomorrow Forever today (iTunes / Amazon), and you can also catch him on tour with Tommy Keene, which is about a good a match as you can imagine. Dates start in July and, he’ll play NYC’s City Winery on September 10. Tickets are on sale but if you’d like to go for free, we’re giving away a pair. For your chance to win, just comment on this post or tweet the following: “I want to see Matthew Sweet at City Winery @BrooklynVegan http://bit.ly/2sufe6b”.
