Megafaun releasing mini-album - new MP3, videos, tour dates

DOWNLOAD: Megafaun – “Volunteers” (MP3)
Megafaun will be releasing mini-album Heretofore on September 14th through Hometapes. The band – brothers Brad and Phil Cook and Joe Westerlund (all three of which play with the Gayngs crew)- cut the six-song record at the beginning of 2010 (six songs, but one, “Comprovisation,” is “the first 15 minutes of a four-hour improvisation”). A track from the record is posted above.
The band is currently on tour with twangy songwriter Sam Quinn. They play Maxwell’s in Hoboken tonight (6/9)– tickets are on sale.

Megafaun recorded Heretofore between January 12 and February 28 in Raleigh, N.C., at Flying Tiger Sound with BJ Burton. The music was mixed by BJ Burton and Megafaun and mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering. These six tracks feature, at various points, Robert “Crowmeat Bob” Pence on baritone saxophone, Mark Paulson on violin, Matt Watts on electric guitar, members of Slaraffenland on horns and a whole slew of pals on backing vocals.
Takeaway show ‘His Robe’
It was decided that Sharon Van Elten would improvise a few notes on the violin and that Elisabeth, the lead singer of Land of Talk, who had put the band up for the night, would wait perched on a balcony for a sign to launch into an unforgettable trumpet solo, an instrument she did not know how to play, but an idea which Megafaun found hilarious.
