Merchandise and Lower‘s tour together hit NYC last night (10/14) for a show at MHOW. The bands share a similar dark, emotive sound and general asthetic (not to mention same parent label, the Beggars Group) so it’s a good double bill. Merchandise, whose new album takes them further away from their punk roots, really benefited from MHOW’s soundsystem. Pictures from their sets are in this post.

Folks who got there early were treated to a set from Italian duo Ninos du Brasil who were making their American debut (they’re on the tour as well), a highly charged set full of crazy drumming and confetti. The group, whose record is out on Dominick Furnow’s Hospital Productions (and have an upcoming 12″ on DFA), did a pretty cool remix of Merchandise’s “Green Lady” which you can stream below. NYC has another chance to see Ninos du Brasil tonight (10/15) at the Nothing Changes party at Home Sweet Home with Brazilian dark punks Rakta. That’s a late show, probably not starting till after midnight. Take a nap first.
