Mercury Girls releasing new single on Slumberland (listen), playing NYC Popfest & other shows

Philadelphia’s Mercury Girls have a new single, “Ariana,” which will be out May 20 via Slumberland. Singer Sarah Schimineck tells us, “’Ariana,’ like many of our songs, attempts to take the reigns of my own nostalgia. If I can conjure up some phantom longing and make it real, then maybe something will happen. Anything.” Musically, this is “indiepop” done right: shimmering and confident, with a big memorable chorus and lots of great little touches to keep things interesting. This is a good one, and you can listen to both sides of the 7″ below.

Mercury Girls have a few shows on the horizon, including a couple in NYC: they’ll play NYC Popfest at Knitting Factory on May 21 with The Primitives, The Chesterfields, Alpaca Sports, Tiny Fireflies, and Cristina Quesada (tickets), and then they’ll play the Kanine/Slumberland-presented show at Cake Shop on June 11 with Flowers and Expert Alterations (tickets).

Pre-order that new single via Slumberland. All tour dates are listed below.
