Mercury Prize 2018 nominees (Arctic Monkeys, Florence, King Krule, more)

The nominees for the 2018 Mercury Prize, an award for the best UK or Irish album of the past year as voted on by a panel of judges, have been announced. Here’s the list:

Lily Allen – No Shame
Arctic Monkeys – Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
Everything Everything – A Fever Dream
Everything Is Recorded – Everything Is Recorded
Florence + the Machine – High as Hope
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Who Built the Moon?
King Krule – The Ooz
Novelist – Novelist Guy
Nadine Shah – Holiday Destination
Jorja Smith – Lost and Found
Sons of Kemet – Your Queen Is a Reptile
Wolf Alice – Visions of a Life

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, which takes place at London’s Eventim Apollo on September 20. Last year’s winner was Sampha’s Process.

As Laura Snapes at The Guardian points out, Let’s Eat Grandma, Gwenno, Hookworms, Charli XCX, Baxter Dury and Sophie are all notably missing from the list of nominees.
